Formica products are widely used in interior decoration and production design. Formica values sustainable development and has ISO 14001 certification which requires manufacturers to document and execute EMS feedback loops. Approximately 69% of raw materials are sourced locally, helping to boost local economies while reducing embodied transport energy. Currently, Formica collects and burns production byproducts (deco paper and kraft) which are generated during production. GIGA suggests incineration be tied to energy recapture, or better, that byproducts be systematically reused or recycled as an alternative to burning. Greenguard Certification has been awarded to Formica products, qualifying them for all LEED 'IEQ' points. Formica products also meet A2 flammability requirements, classifying them as ‘non-combustible’, meeting industry safety requirements.
