The Pearl River Tower shows what is possible for modern green design. Instead of adding green features to their project, SOM challenged the concept of green design by making the building the green feature.

The tower is sculpted to direct wind through wind turbines on two floor which cut through the entire building. In addition to fueling the building these mechanical floor are the most identifiable design feature of the project, putting the mission of the project into clear focus.

Other green features are integral to the tower including, solar panels, double skin facade, sub-floor ventilation system, chilled ceiling system, daylighting, and radiant cooling. Together, these features make the Pearl River Tower one of the most efficient super tall buildings in the world.
